Security sources reported that two policemen were severely injured after a bomb exploded in the governorate of Alexandria on Monday.
The explosion took place in front of the Civil Defence Forces’ building in downtown Alexandria.
Security personnel were dispatched to the scene in order to search for any remaining explosives.
Scores of policemen and soldiers have been killed in bombings and shootings since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July last year following nationwide protests.
Most of the attacks have been in the Sinai Peninsula, the deadliest of them claimed by Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis, an armed group that has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State, which controls large areas in Iraq and Syria.
However, there have also been repeated attacks in Egypt’s urban areas. On Saturday, gunmen killed a policeman and wounded another in a drive-by shooting in Cairo.
